Description

Macher Tel Jhol is a very simple bengali fish curry preparation! Mustard oil is the star ingredient of this fish curry.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Coat the fish with salt and turmeric powder
  2. Add 3 tbsp. mustard oil to a pan set on high heat
  3. When the mustard oil is hot add the fish filets
  4. Fry the fish till they are golden brown on both sides (~2 min per side)
  5. Set the fish aside
  6. Reduce the heat the medium and add another tbsp. of mustard oil to the pan
  7. Add kala jeera, turmeric powder, 6-8 slit green chillies and salt (to taste)
  8. Give it a quick stir
  9. Add tomato pieces (cut small)
  10. Stir fry the tomato, press down on the tomato pieces with your spatula and fry till the tomato pieces look oily and becomes a paste
  11. Add 1 cup water 
  12. Let the gravy simmer for 5 min
  13. Add salt to taste
  14. Add few more green chillies
  15. Add the fish in
  16. Make sure the fish pieces are submerged in the gravy
  17. Let the gravy simmer till it doesn’t taste dilute
  18. Add 1 tbsp. mustard oil
  19. Add coriander leaves
