Here I am sharing my mom’s recipe for bengali chicken curry with potatoes. We will make it quickly in a pressure cooker. This is a delicious recipe that makes me nostalgic.

  • Marinade

Instructions

  1. Use chicken (with bone) for this recipe
  2. Make fresh ginger garlic paste (with equal parts of ginger and garlic)
  3. Marinate the chicken with yogurt, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and ginger garlic paste 
  4. Let the chicken marinate for 30 min at least
  5. In a pressure cooker add mustard oil 
  6. Stir fry the potatoes till they are golden brown and set aside
  7. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves and cardamoms
  8. Add onion, sugar and stir fry till golden brown
  9. Turn down the heat, add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and kashmiri red chilli powder
  10. Give it a quick stir
  11. Add tomato pieces and stir fry until it becomes soft and oily
  12. Add chicken pieces and stir fry for 5-10 min or till it looks oily
  13. Add potato pieces and slit green chillies
  14. Stir
  15. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste
  16. Pressure cook for 1 whistle or under pressure for 5 min
  17. Let the pressure release naturally 
  18. Add salt and sugar to taste
  19. Add garam masala powder
  20. Garnish with coriander leaves
