Aloo 65 or Potato 65 is a popular South Indian appetizer. Boiled potatoes are coated in flour and fried till crunchy. They are then tossed in curry leaves, ginger, garlic and other aromatic spices! Tastes amazing as an appetizer or with tandoori roti and dal tadka or steaming hot white rice!



  1. Sprinkle 1/2 a teaspoon of salt to the boiled potatoes and mix well
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of low sodium soy sauce, ginger garlic paste and kashmiri red chilli powder. Add red color (optional)
  3. Add cornstarch, all purpose flour, and rice flour. Mix thoroughly
  4. Sprinkle a little water so that the flour sticks to the potatoes
  5. Mix well
  6. Add approximately 5 tablespoons of oil to a pan set on medium/high heat
  7. Add the potatoes
  8. Distribute the potatoes in a single layer
  9. Stir fry the potatoes until crisp. This should take approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
  10. Turn down the heat and keep the potatoes aside
  11. Leave approximately 2 tablespoons of oil in the pan discard the remaining oil
  12. Add onions, curry leaves, and stir fry for one minute
  13. Add garlic and ginger and stir fry for 30 seconds
  14. Add slit green chilies, coriander powder, powdered black pepper, garam masala powder and half of the coriander leaves
  15. Stir fry for 30 seconds
  16. Add the remaining white vinegar, low sodium soy sauce and red chilli sauce.
  17. Mix well
  18. Add salt to taste
  19. Add the potatoes and mix thoroughly
  20. Stir fry the potatoes for one minute and garnish with the remaining coriander leaves


  • You can either deep fry the potatoes until crisp or shallow fry them just like I did!
