Spicy Raw Banana Fry Recipe

Description

This is a tasty and spicy recipe that you can cook in under 30 min! Try this with steaming hot white rice and ghee or with chapati. Simple and delicious!

Ingredients

  • Dry Masala mix

Instructions

  1. Peel three raw bananas and cut them in disk like shapes with a thickness of around half a centimeter
  2. Make sure to place the raw banana pieces in water while cutting to prevent them from browning due to oxidation
  3. Now drain the water and to this add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, 2 teaspoons of coriander powder, 1 teaspoon of normal red chili powder, 2 teaspoons of kashmiri red chilli powder, half a teaspoon of black pepper powder and salt to taste
  4. Mix thoroughly
  5. Set a pan on medium heat and add three tablespoons of sesame oil. If you don’t have sesame oil you can use either normal cooking oil or even coconut oil
  6. Add half a teaspoon of mustard seeds, half a teaspoon of cumin seeds, two dried red chilies, one teaspoon of black gram or urad dal, 10 to 12 curry leaves and some hing or asafoetida powder
  7. Stir fry for 10 to 15 seconds
  8. Once the seeds start to splutter add 1 tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste.
  9. Saute these for around 30 seconds and then add in the raw banana pieces
  10. Mix the pieces well with the ginger garlic paste and the other spices and try to spread out the pieces as much as you can on your pan
  11. Sprinkle around 2 tablespoons of water and place the lid on let this cook on low heat for around 5 minutes
  12. We want to make sure that the pieces haven’t stuck to the bottom of the pan and we also want to check if the pieces are completely cooked through
  13. If they don‘t look like they are cooked through yet, add a little more water and place the lid on once again
  14. Add salt to taste
  15. Sprinkle another tablespoon of sesame oil and fry the pieces till the masalas are nicely toasted and the plantain pieces have a beautiful coating
  16. Keep stir frying the pieces for around 10 to 15 minutes on medium heat till the pieces have a nice dark golden brown color
  17. Let’s finish up with a squeeze of fresh lime juice for some extra kick
