How to make bengali steamed prawns in mustard sauce-Bhaapa Chingri

Description

Bhaapa Chingri in Bengali means Prawns/Shrimp steamed in a delicious mustard, poppy seed, coconut paste. Absolutely delicious and flavorful dish that can be made in no time! Pairs perfectly with steaming hot white rice.

Instructions

  1. Soak mustard seeds and poppy seeds in a quarter cup of water for 10 min at least
  2. Clean and devein the prawns/shrimp
  3. Sprinkle some turmeric powder and salt and set aside
  4. Grind the mustard seeds and poppy seeds 
    in water till it forms a fine paste 
  5. Add grated coconut, 1 green chilli, turmeric powder, kashmiri red chilli powder and salt to the same grinder jar
  6. Add enough water to grind to fine paste (I added 1/2 cup)
  7. Add the paste to the shrimp/prawn
  8. Add 2 tbsp. of mustard oil and mix well with the prawn/shrimp 
  9. Steam the prawn/shrimp for 12-15 min
  10. Garnish with another tbsp. of mustard oil and green chillies
